Just a few days after celebrating his 79th birthday, Ronald Eugene Thomas, departed his earthly home for his heavenly home on December 29, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of love, hope and kindness.
Ron was born December 10, 1943, to Janet Boyett Thomas and E.W. Pete Thomas in Smackover, Arkansas. He attended schools in Arkansas and Louisiana before graduating from Kermit High School in Kermit, Texas.
After high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country as a Hospital Corpsman until his honorable discharge in 1969. Ron met his soulmate for life, Sue, shortly after his release from active duty. Ron and Sue married in 1970 and moved to Alpine, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Sul Ross University.
He received his Master’s Degree from Texas A and I University, embarking on a career in education. This journey began in Sinton, Texas, where he served as a teacher, coach, principal and assistant superintendent. He retired in 2000 as Superintendent of schools for Aransas Pass ISD. Throughout his career he touched the lives of countless students, teachers and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sue Thomas, his sons, Alex (Melanie) of Lancaster California, Adrian (Monica) of Seguin, Texas, and his sister, Judy (James) Thomas of Kermit, Texas. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Patrick, Tristan, Melonie, Caleb, Jacob, Marshall, Finnley, Ryleigh and Amanda. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Committal Services with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to a favorite charity or organization.
