Rena Anna Reimann Dreyer, age 99 of Marion, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 17, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was blessed with a long and wonderful life and always put her family first.
Mrs. Dreyer was born on the Reimann family dairy farm in Converse, Texas on April 5, 1920. She met her husband, Helmuth Dreyer, at a local dance and they later married on June 25, 1940. They danced together and shared a full life on the Dreyer family farm in Marion during their marriage of almost fifty years. She and Helmuth had three children together; Leoma (Calvin) Steffen of Marion, Duane Dreyer (deceased), and Marsha (Michael) Dove of New Braunfels.
Rena was known and loved for her fluffy Chiffon cakes and peach cobbler. She was an avid gardener and would can vegetables and jams that she would share with her family and friends.
Rena invented the concept of "porch time" and spent lots of time visiting with family and close friends in her rocking chair. When Fredericksburg peaches were in season, she could be found on her porch with the hand-crank ice cream maker making delicious custard ice cream. She faithfully read her Bible and stayed mentally alert by reading each day.
She has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Marion, since her marriage in 1940. She served on the altar guild, sang in the choir, participated in the Women's Missionary Society and Bible Study groups along with teaching Sunday School. She and Helmuth were among the founding members of the Cibolo Grange and held offices all the way to the state level.
Rena loved her family greatly. She loved and cared for her six grandchildren throughout her life; Melanie (Peter) Krause, Carl (Yvette) Steffen and Judy (Brennan) Bek of Marion, Paula (Will) Moeller of Johnson City and Brandon (deceased) and Bryce Parrock of New Braunfels. Later in her life, she was blessed with three additional grandchildren; Katheryne (Justin) Pressley of Sandia, Michael J. (Britlyn) Dove and Garrett Dove of San Antonio. She had 16 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She is survived by one brother Wallace (Evaleen) Reimann of Kendalia as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, four siblings, her husband Helmuth and son Duane Dreyer, grandson Brandon Parrock and great great grandson Blake Williams.
