Juanita Hernandez Arias, our cherished mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother passed away on June 28, 2018 at the age of 91. She was born to Antonio and Soledad Amaro Hernandez in Gonzales, Texas on April 5th, 1927. She attended school in Kingsbury, Texas and married Luis (Loy) Ramirez. Juanita is survived by children, Louis R. Ramirez Sr. (Leanna), Beatrice Ramirez, and Joe D. Ramirez (Odelia), her siblings, Mary Amador, Connie Lara, Eleazar Hernandez, Gloria Meredith, Olga Hodge, step-sister Anna Montague and Dora Ancira; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, husband Pascual Arias, daughters Dolores Rincon and Dahlia Tristan, and granddaughter Jeanette Rincon; sister Modesta Barrera, step-mother Emilia Hernandez, and step-sister Elizabeth Garcia.
Juanita, also known as Janie, owned and operated Charm Beauty Salon in Seguin for 35 years until her retirement. She married Pascual Arias in 1948. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was active in the Guadalupana's. She was very involved in the Seguin Business Women's Club for many years. Janie attended birthday parties, weddings, quinceañeras and never missed the annual July 4th parade until she was well into her 80s. Juanita was fiercely independent and often seen driving about Seguin shopping for bargains, and at Church's Chicken getting her regular order through the drive thru. She surprised her family by passing the Texas driver's license eye examination with 20-20 vision on her 90th birthday. Janie had exceptionally good memory and managed her own affairs throughout her long life.
Juanita Hernandez Arias will be deeply missed by her family. Pallbearers are Louis R. Ramirez Jr., Gilbert Perez, Rogelio Tristan, Danny Ramirez, George Garcia Jr., and Rodney Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers are Melissa Garcia, Margaret Rincon, Christine Rincon, JoAnn Rincon, Leticia Perez, Florene Schreiber, and Ruben Ramirez.
The family wishes to thank WellMed physician, Dr. Huelen E. Smith Jr., who patiently cared for her, and Embrace Hospice for attending her in these last days. Sons, Louis and Joe will forever be grateful to our sister Beatrice and niece Leticia Perez, granddaughter, who resigned her job to assist her Mother Beatrice to care for Janie during her last weeks of our Mother's life- and to Gilbert Perez, for supporting his wife's generous commitment to her grandmother.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 9 PM with the Holy Rosary recited at 7 PM on Monday, July 2, 2018, at Goetz Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Geronimo Cemetery.
