With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Josefine Marez, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Josefine G. Marez, of Seguin, Texas, was born on April 3, 1932 and passed away at the age of 90. She is predeceased by her parents Joe Gonzales and Anita Cordova; her late husband of 50 years, Felipe Marez also from Seguin, Texas; her two sons Marciano Marez and Carlos Marez; her brothers Manual Gonzales and Marciano Gonzales; and her sisters Velia Polanco, Anita Flores, and Elsa Maldonado.
Josefine is survived by four daughters, Sylvia Kwiatkowski (Allen) of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; Virginia Guerra (Raul) of Jefferson, Wisconsin; Alicia Steeves (Austin) of Marion, Texas; Rose Wegner (James) of Fort Wayne, Indiana and one son, Felipe Marez Jr. (Tracy) of Wyomissing Hills, Pennsylvania. She is further survived by her brother, Robert Gonzales; sister, Esperanza Gonzales; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She lived in Wisconsin for 30 years from 1965 to 1995 and returned to Seguin upon her husband retiring. She was a parish member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wisconsin. She was a wonderful and devoted mother and homemaker who loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a sports enthusiast watching her children and grandchildren on the playing fields. She was a loyal Cowboys fan, notorious for wagering on her team, but never paying up on her wagers when she lost. She enjoyed her flower gardens and was always going thrift shopping at Goodwill and Saint Vincent DePaul’s. Josefine loved jewelry shopping, eating out, and had a sweet tooth for chocolate. She had a spirited personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. She was a wonderful woman who will be deeply missed. We are heartbroken to lose someone so special.
