José Maria Sanchez, 86, of Seguin Texas passed away at his home on Monday, May 31, 2021. Memorial service will take place Thursday, June 3 at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin.
Jose (Joe) was born in Laredo, Texas on December 1, 1934 to José Maria Sanchez II and Herminia Lopez Sanchez. He grew up in Laredo and attended Martin High School. As an accomplished athlete, he excelled in basketball, football, and track and field (high jump). He was recognized as one of the top basketball players in the state of Texas. After graduating from high school he attended Texas A&M University. He also served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was an avid rancher for many years. Joe worked in the insurance field most of his life where he continuously set company records.
He met and married the love of his life, Irma Sanchez, in Laredo where they raised 3 children. After living in San Antonio they retired in Seguin where he started a pecan orchard. Joe’s strong faith in God was a part of his everyday life.
He traveled extensively to many parts of the world with his beloved wife by his side. His absolute favorite vacation trips were on cruise ships with his family. At home he loved his pecan trees, his guitar, his numerous pups and his cognac.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Irma J. Sanchez; parents Jose and Herminia; sisters Laura Martinez, Diana Kitchens and Dora Massey. He is survived by his children Joe Sanchez Jr., Irma Sanchez, George Sanchez (Felecia); grandchildren Kelly Webber, George Sanchez Jr. (Krystal), Sarah Sanchez Debusk (Colton), Ceslee Sanchez and great-granddaughter Kasey Rivera.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Hospice for the love and care they provided during Joe’s time of need.
