James B. Smith, fondly known by family and friends as Jim, Jimmy, or Jimbo, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025 at the age of 87. Jim was born on April 17, 1937 in Seguin, Texas.
Jim, a proud fifth-generation resident of Seguin and a cherished member of the Buerger family, lived his life most notably as an avid hardworking rancher who took exceptional care of his Black Brangus cattle.
Jim graduated from Seguin High School in 1955, where he participated in track, football and FFA. Although, Jim was a very private person with an analytical personality, his close relationships were rooted in Trust, Respect and Understanding. He was known for his punctuality and would often say “You're Late.” For many years, Jim regularly visited with classmates and friends at both Dairy Queens in Seguin, where they shared stories and laughter.
Jim is preceded in death by his son, Shaun Smith; his mother Bessie Belle Brown; grandparents, Henry Buerger and Lena Dittmar Buerger; as well as his uncle, Theo “Teddy” Buerger and aunts, Lucile Buerger Moore and Zella Buerger.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Smith, as well as his stepfamily, Melanie and Tom Alls, Elizabeth and David Guerrero; step grandchildren, John Alls, Hanna Alls, Olive Guerrero, Duke Guerrero and Audrey Guerrero. He is also survived by his two first cousins; Margaret Mueller and Mark Moore.
James B. Smith will be remembered for his commitment to his cattle, his cherished hometown, and the love he held for his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be announced.
