Charles Edward Durst Sr.

Brother Charles Edward Durst, Sr. was born on January 15, 1944 to Ural Sherman Durst and Beatrice Durst in Hays County. He was the sixth of nine children born to this union. Brother Durst attended public school at Dunbar in San Marcos, Texas.

He worked at Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA) for twenty plus years, retiring on August 31, 2009. His co-workers remember him as a family man who was a true gentleman who was respected and loved. In 1999, Brother Durst attended classes at A & M University where he was awarded a certificate for completing the Texas Engineering Construction Training Program.

Brother Durst is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ollie Bernice Durst Barksdale (Sacramento, California); two brothers, Ural Sherman Durst, Jr. (San Antonio, Texas); Elmo Durst (San Antonio, Texas); one grandchild and one great grandchild. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of sixty one years, Marie Elizabeth Sutton Durst; his three sons, Lawrence Herron (Linda), Rodney Durst, Sr. (Mary Ann), and Charles Durst, Jr. (Michelle); one adored daughter, Angela Durst (Pele); ten grandchildren, La’Thrisa McCalister (Carl), Rodney Durst Jr. (Jazmin), D’Vaye Durst, Sarah Robinson-Durst, Stephanie Jaimes (Joe), Steven Robinson-Durst, Reginald Thompson, De’Anna Williams, Shawanda Johnson, and Shaneil Johnson; and twenty eight great grandchildren. Charles is also survived by one brother, Eugene Durst (San Antonio, Texas); four sisters, Ida Myrtle Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas), Mary Jo Denkins (Kempner, Texas), Sherrie Ann Robinson (Oakley, California), Sandra Faye Burton (San Antonio, Texas); numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other loved ones, relatives and friends.

Services honoring Brother Durst will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Goetz Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m.
