Catherine Martin

June 23, 1936 — June 10, 2019

Catherine “Cathy” Theresa Ferguson Martin, 82, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin, Texas.  She was born on June 23, 1936 in Las Gallinas, Texas.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma (Kempen) & John W.  Ferguson, her husband of 47 years, Wilfred “Doodle” Martin,  her three siblings, Lily Mae Ferguson, Mary Ann Hooten, and Harold Ferguson, and close nephew Ronnie Colby.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Pullin (Bob) and Leslie “Bubba” Martin (Linda).  She also leaves four grandchildren:  Kyle Pullin (Jenny), Kirk Pullin (Hannah), Austin Martin (Miriam) and Amanda Stevens (Zach); four great-grandchildren: Preston Pullin, Lorelei Martin, Addison Stevens, and Spencer Russell; close nephews Mike Colby (Peggy), John Colby (Tracy), Doug Hooten (Jan), and Ronnie’s wife Yoli Colby; and other numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Cathy graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1954.  She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone until she and Doodle started their family in 1959.  From that point until 1973, she was a housewife and fulltime mother.  She returned to the work force in 1973 at Motorola in Seguin, first on the production line and then as an administrative assistant to the plant manager.  She retired from Motorola shortly after her husband retired in 1987.

She was the proud Girl Scout Leader of Troup 66 for 7 years and reminisced often about those years.  She was very active in her children’s schools through PTA and various booster clubs.  Her children were her pride and joy. As they married and had their families, that love and pride continued with their spouses, children and grandchildren.  She was Grandma Martin or Aunt Cathy to many of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and nephew’s friends.

Along with her husband, she was an active volunteer with the McQueeney Lion’s Club in the snack bar on Bingo nights and the Elk’s Lodge.  She enjoyed participating in 10 pin bowling leagues until her health prevented involvement.  She raised her family in the First United Methodist Church in Seguin and loved attending the early service each Sunday and volunteering on Monday mornings for money counting until her health prevented continuing.

She and her sister, Mary Ann, were very close and raised their families together sharing vacations, summers at the lake, and Friday night visits.  Later in life, she loved spending time with her friends playing Bunco, Skip Bo, and Bingo.  Friday nights were always reserved for her dinner group.

She adored traveling with her husband, family and friends.  She especially loved her trips to Alaska, Poland, Vermont, up the California Coast, and all her trips to Las Vegas.
