Antonio “Tony” Sandoval, 97, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in Seguin, Texas, surrounded by his wife and children. Tony was born in Geronimo, Texas on January 17, 1925 to Martin Sandoval and Paulina Herrera.
Tony served as a sergeant in the US Army during WWII, serving in the New Guinea, North Solomons, Luzon campaigns and was awarded the distinctive bronze star and purple heart for his bravery.
He met his loving wife, Maria, in Seguin in 1948 and married her one year later. Tony spent his work career in the dry cleaning and life insurance businesses. During his 73 years of marriage to Maria he enjoyed family time, travel and running bingos for both the American Legion (of which he was a member for over 30 years) and the Knights of Columbus, where he also served as a distinguished 4th degree member. Additionally, he served on the Seguin Housing Authority board of directors for many years.
Antonio is preceded in death by both of his parents, Martin and Paulina Sandoval; sisters, Maria Sandoval, Jesusa Sandoval, Rosa Garcia, and Natividad Loera; brothers, Augustine Sandoval, Miguel Sandoval and Pedro Sandoval.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Maria Sandoval; children, Mario Sandoval (Esther), Sonia Harrison, Sandra Frausto and Rene Sandoval (Carol); one sister, Angelita Gutierrez; grandchildren, Anthony Ray Sandoval, James Matthew Sandoval, Sarah Veronica Doegey (Justin), Anthony Paul Carmona, Ian Rene Sandoval, Iris Nicole Hernandez (Jesse), Lynn Rose Medrano (Ray), Benjamin Sandoval and Joseph Sandoval. He is further survived by 10 great grand children, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Goetz Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
